The Diasporans are flocking to Ghana in droves. They are making the journey over both land and water, from various countries and states, such as California, New York, Michigan, Georgia, Maryland, DC, Texas, the Carolinas, Ohio, Illinois, just to name a few.
Some plan to stay, others come to check out the landscape and still others plan to return. Unfortunately, some arrive completely ill-prepared. Returning to the Motherland is a fantastic idea, however, knowing how, makes all the difference in the world! If you come with a romanticized notion that Mother Africa is simply waiting with open arms to receive you with ease, you will be sorely disappointed. Another point, is that Africa no longer remembers her greatness! As a result, we who have returned are in the process of reminding her, that she is the cradle of civilization, the birthplace of humanity, and the place where the first human being, fashioned in the likeness of the Creator, lives.
Simply put, many people in Ghana/Africa have forgotten what it means to be African (community minded, working and providing for tomorrow's future generations).
You will come into contact with people who want to scam, beat, swindle, and bamboozle you. What should you wear as the season’s changes? There are both, the rainy and dry seasons in Ghana, but they sometimes get mixed up, LOL!. Where would you find the foods that you crave? At first, you'll enjoy the new Ghanaian cuisine and select your favorites. However, after a while, you'll crave a burger and fries, vegetable stir-fry, cheese enchilada, etc. How do you plan your transportation budget? Transportation is the most expensive cost here in Ghana, and you can end up paying hundreds of dollars in Uber/Taxi fares. But there’s a way to plan your life around transportation and make it less costly. Safety (knowing where/when/how to go about your life with your eyes wide open.) What is the best way to spend your money? If you're just visiting, go for it! Splurge!!! However, if you intend to stay for an extended period of time, make a budget! Or, you'll waste thousands of dollars that you could be utilized elsewhere..Send us your thoughts.
