Helpfulness

Before the term Cancel Culture was even a thing, no one could get rid of, negate, close out, discontinue a friendship, or make a person “dead-to-me” like Black folk.

Remember your Big Momma didn’t talk to Mrs. Jenkins across the street since 1964 because of whatever the issue was back then -usually the story changed from each remembrance because 1) it really wasn’t such a big deal and, or 2) Big Mama really cannot remember what happened exactly?

We tend to wear our ability to break off acquaintances, discontinue friendships, and terminate relationships like a badge of honor.

Cut to your new life, here on the African continent, Ghana, especially.  We bring that same determination to be “an island”, “not need anybody”, “do it by myself”, “keep folks out my business” and simply “not deal with the BS”.  But can we really afford to bring this same mindset along with us to our new, unfamiliar, sometimes challenging surroundings?  Wouldn’t it behoove us to try a “different” approach to dealing with the inevitable mishaps, misunderstandings, and perceived wrongs?

The hurt, and it is our perceived hurt, disrespect, disregard upon which we usually find ourselves reacting, that which causes us to cut people off in our lives.  We can find ourselves in quite precarious situations when we alienate us from those whom we, at some point, will require help.

When a person acknowledges their trauma, sadness, anguish, and confusion, it leads the way to a significant healing process. The environment in Ghana is characterized by lucidity, which may facilitate the recovery process of an individual.

How would you instigate the start of your therapeutic journey? What specific areas of personal development would you prioritize as you embark on this voyage?

Deep, intense, psychological healing is required.  Especially, for the African coming from the Americas, the UK, and other places where we’ve been conditioned, taught, and manipulated to pull away from our own possible comfort and salvation; the peace that could be found in any situation should we simply try a different strategy to the brokenness we’ve practiced thus far.

Please bring your new thoughts and patterns with you when you come to Ghana.
